BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) — Chinese authorities have issued a set of guidelines on tightening the regulation of education fees to promote fair and quality education, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Education (MOE) on Monday.
The guidelines, issued by five departments, including the MOE, require improvements to the policy, institution and supervision of education fees, and a continuation of the crackdown on the collection of unauthorized fees.
The guidelines emphasize that no tuition or other education fees will be charged for compulsory education at public schools. Donations related to school enrollment are strictly banned.
Local authorities have been urged to provide subsidies for private kindergartens and schools for compulsory education to prevent excessive fees.
Schools are not allowed to charge for services that are prohibited or financed by the government, according to the guidelines.
