National Disability Prevention Day Focuses on Early Childhoo
The campaign of this year's National Disability Prevention Day which falls on August 25, will focus on publicizing knowledge about early childhood intervention, according to the China Disabled Persons' Federation.
To mark the day, diversified activities will be carried out to raise public awareness of disabled
minors' growth and development, rehabilitation and relief systems.
The campaign calls on parents to improve their detection skills and monitor their children's early
development for any abnormalities, with an eye on children's physical growth and psychological development. Children aged 6 and under should also undergo neonatal screening and disability screening.
It also stresses the role of children's rehabilitation education, helping parents understand the importance and the basic methods of rehabilitation services, enabling children in need to
receive treatment services promptly, and preventing and reducing children's disabilities
to the maximum extent.
Clear, objective application standards should be in place — along with preferential policies — to ensure that disabled children's families and workers of rehabilitation centers, maternity and child care institutions, and child welfare and medical institutions can understand relevant information about children's rehabilitation assistance and help disabled children apply for the assistance.
In 2017, the State Council officially designated August 25 as National Disability Prevention Day. This year will be the fourth year to commemorate it.
